New VCE scholarship launched

Students who are passionate about finishing strong in VCE to maximise their post-school opportunities are invited to apply for a new scholarship that aims to help Gippsland students springboard to new heights.

Gippsland Grammar’s new ‘Finish Strong’ scholarships offer a 50 per cent tuition fee remission to students studying who don’t currently attend the school and will be in Years 10, 11 or 12 in 2024.

Applications close on Tuesday October 17.

This is the first time Gippsland Grammar has offered a VCE-specific scholarship and Head of Admissions Jemma Horan said the independent school was excited about welcoming new high-achieving and community-minded students to the school community in their final years of schooling.

“Many of our students have been at Gippsland Grammar since their kindergarten years at our ELC,” Ms Horan said. “However, many students also transition into our community at Year 7 and Year 10 in preparation for those key VCE years. We hope this scholarship will encourage families to consider which option is the best for their child and which school may offer the range of subjects that will best prepare students for either the workforce or tertiary education.”

Gippsland Grammar offers more than 30 subjects in VCE including Legal Studies, Global Politics, Business Management, Music and Music Performance, Japanese, French and Outdoor and Environmental Education. Some of the VCE subjects offered in the school’s new multi-million dollar Art & Design Centre include Software Development, Media, Art Making and Furnishing.

The school has a longstanding reputation for VCE excellence with about 20 per cent of its students consistently achieving an ATAR above 90, placing them in the top 10 per cent of students in the state. Last year the school’s median ATAR was 76.55, which was significantly higher than Victoria’s median ATAR of 70.33 and 65 per cent of that cohort achieved an ATAR above 70, placing them above the state’s average.

Earlier this year Old Scholar from the Class of 2022 Katie Waller was awarded a Premier’s Award in VCE Furnishing, which means she was the best student in that subject in Victoria in 2022. Katie is the sixth Gippsland Grammar student to receive a Premier’s Award since 2014. Read more about Katie's achievements here: https://www.gippslandgrammar.a...

Interested students currently in Year 9 or above who would like to Finish Strong at Gippsland Grammar in 2024 are invited to submit their academic records and evidence of notable achievements or contributions to their school or wider community as part of their Finish Strong Scholarship application. Applicants are also required to sit a scholarship examination on Thursday October 19 at Gippsland Grammar’s Garnsey Campus in Sale. The Finish Strong VCE Scholarship are awarded at the Principal’s discretion.
