Outdoor Education

Gippsland Grammar’s commitment to development of our students extends beyond the traditional classroom, with a dynamic and exciting program of Outdoor Education experiences.

The paramount objective of Gippsland Grammar’s Outdoor Education program is to develop each student's positive self-concept. Students will learn intrapersonal and interpersonal skills to help develop a co-operative and caring approach towards others and reveal leadership potential and strengths. Students are encouraged to demonstrate initiative, stamina and self-reliance. While on the program, they will also develop a greater understanding of our natural environment including flora, fauna, landforms and the cultural elements of the area. This will help to develop a respect for the outdoors and our community.

In Year 7 to 9, all students participate in the Outdoor Education program as part of the whole school curriculum. "Nothing ventured, nothing gained" is an often heard phrase and one that emphasises individual effort and self-motivation in a community setting through a wide range of challenging experiences where the need for teamwork and group support is the central focus and where each individual has an important and necessary role to play. In Year 10 and 11, students have the opportunity to develop and use these skills further through the leadership program as well as returning as Assistant Leaders on program for younger students.
