It has been a busy few weeks at our Early Learning Centres, and I have enjoyed spending time at both campuses and getting to know the children and parents. I also look forward to working with our teachers and educators to plan and develop stimulating learning experiences and environments for the children to explore.

One lovely part of 2023 has been the ability to welcome our families back into the centres at drop-off and pick-up times. From the excitement in the air, I know parents and carers have also enjoyed seeing their child's classroom and chatting informally with our teaching staff and other parents. This is an integral part of the community-building experience of the kindergarten year – as parents, you will see each other for many years to come!

Each year our educators create a Quality Improvement Plan to guide the continual development of and reflection on how our ELC operates. This year, our focus will be creating opportunities for family and community engagement and exploring how we are engaging with sustainable practices. You might have noticed that we have started 'recycling stations' outside both centres. We invite you to support 'sustainable craft and play' by donating items for collage or imaginative play. I would also remind families that we are a rubbish-free program, so please use only recyclable containers for all food items. We will provide more information about this as the year progresses.

We have planned several opportunities for you to visit the ELC and learn more about how to support your child's learning. Please put these following activities in your diaries now:

Stay & Play Evenings: These 'open' evenings celebrate the importance of play in your child's development. Pop on your casual clothes and come with your child for an evening of paint, sand, collage and fun. You will also have the opportunity to meet our educators and other families.
Bairnsdale Reception and Transition :: Thursday March 9 from 5.30-6.45pm.
St Anne's Sale Reception :: Yellow and Green Cygnet Groups: Wednesday March 8 from 6-7pm.
St Anne's Sale Transition :: White and Black Swans, Thursday March 9 from 6-7pm.

Triple P Parent 'Fear-Less' Education Evenings (ELC to Year 6):
Many parents are coming to realise that their child or teenager is anxious but are unsure of the best way to help them. Often, the ways parents naturally react to having an anxious child can accidentally increase anxiety. That's why we're proud to be hosting a FREE Triple P seminar to help all parents give children useful skills and strategies to prevent excessive worrying and build confidence. These are practical tips and techniques to help you build up your child's ability to handle uncomfortable emotions in a healthy way. You'll learn more about underlying causes of anxiety, and what works to reduce it.

The Fear-Less Triple P Seminar can help you:
• Understand more about anxiety (and how to reduce it)
• Look at different ways to respond to your child when they're anxious
• Give them skills to cope with challenging situations and solve problems
• Teach them a range of strategies based on proven principles
